Community Initiatives We're Proud To Be A Part Of
Hurricane Irma Relief
During this time, we've been working towards restoring and repairing not only our beloved Cheeca Lodge, but our entire island community of Islamorada. Their unwavering love and support has been second to none as we work towards rebuilding our home together as one island family. Immediately after the storm we opened our doors to over 80 first responders. Even though we haven't been able to offer all of Cheeca's signature amenities, our General Manager cooks dinner for the group nightly! We've worked with these amazing individuals, hand in hand, to restore and rebuild both Cheeca and the community one step at a time. While Hurricane Irma has affected so many, our caring and resilient island community stands strong. We are poised for an amazing comeback! With over 300 contractors, team members and our corporate team onsite, our recovery is moving full steam ahead. We are making incredible progress every day with our cleanup efforts which include saving and righting dozens of precious protected trees that are already sprouting new growth.
With the help of the Islamorada Fire Rescue Department, we raised our flag and reaffixed our entry sign, two exciting milestones in our recovery efforts. The message is clear: bigger, better, and more brilliant than ever! "We're grateful to be part of this unique island community and would like to give special thanks to Monroe County for all of their amazing support before, during and after the storm." - Cheeca General Manager Bob LaCasse. The Everglades Foundation
Our partnership with The Everglades Foundation is deeply routed in our commitment to nature preservation. Together, it is our hope that the Everglades and the surrounding estuaries will be restored to a natural state that allows clean water flow, while providing a reliable water supply for the people of Florida.

Here are some steps we've taken to help this wonderful cause:
- Save Water Notices in guestrooms and suites encouraging guests to reuse towels and linens when possible.
- Education to staff, guests and even our younger resort guests at Camp Cheeca. We're in the process of being trained by The Everglades Foundation Director of Education on how we can all make small changes that have big impacts, in our daily lives.
- We also use our marketing channels to educate and spread awareness where possible. The more you know, the more you can help!
- A portion from every co-logo'd water bottle sale, available at our Cheeca Signature Store, goes directly towards Everglades preservation.

Cheeca Lodge Pledges $10,000 donation to Guides Trust Foundation - the Beneficiary of (Cancelled) 6th Annual All-American Backcountry Fishing Tournament
Cheeca has announced the cancellation of its 6th Annual All American Backcountry Tournament scheduled to take place November 16-18, 2017, in Islamorada, FL. Typically held over Veterans Day weekend, the tournament was set to host two war heroes, with proceeds benefitting the Guides Trust Foundation, a locally-based nonprofit supporting Florida Keys fishing guides in need. In lieu of the tournament, Cheeca and its owners, Northwood Investors, will be donating $10,000 to the Guides Trust Foundation whose Board of Directors is currently developing a comprehensive strategy to help those Florida Keys Guides and their families who were most impacted by Hurricane Irma. Several tournament sponsors have also pledged to donate to the GTF. More information on the GTF, including the ability to make a donation to help Florida Keys guides in need, can be found at GuidesTrustFoundation.org.
Bonefish & Tarpon Trust Science Symposium
Cheeca is a proud sponsor of the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust's 6th Annual International Science Symposium on November 10-11, 2017. At the event, featured scientific presentations will spotlight Bonefish & Tarpon Trust's ongoing science and conservation programs in the Florida Keys, Bahamas and elsewhere across the Caribbean Basin. In addition to learning more about science-based approaches to conservation, Symposium participants will enjoy time with the legends of our sport - top anglers and guides who will be on hand to share their time-tested techniques for catching the iconic gamefish of the flats.
