Cheeca Lodge will celebrate Earth Day on April 14, 2007, and Don’t Lose Your Keys is the theme of this year’s 14th annual Cheeca Earth Day celebration, expressing the Florida Key’s concern loosing the Florida Keys to environmental problems.
Come join us on Saturday, April 14, 2007 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. as we raise money for the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center, an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to:
- Reduce the suffering of sick and injured wild birds
- Reduce the incidence of their injury
- Reduce the environment hazards that place these birds at risk
- Increase the number of birds, both common and endangered, that are released to the wild
Cheeca’s Earth Day festivities are a full day of outdoor activities, musical entertainment, educational exhibits and a delicious beachfront barbecue. It’s a great day for the entire family. As always, we will gather on the beach to create the annual sand sculpture spelling out Don’t Lose Your Keys in giant, brightly colored letters. Once completed, a helicopter will fly over the beach to film the spectacle for regional and national news.
Listed below are the day’s activities:
Sand Sculpture Fundraiser – Don’t Lose Your Keys will be spelled out with huge letters sculpted out of sand on Cheeca’s beach. Individuals or businesses are invited to sponsor a letter for $275 per team (up to ten people). Each team receives 10 tee-shirts, a cooler of water and food coupons for each participant. Individuals may sign on to help one of the teams for a $25 donation, which includes a tee-shirt, water and a food coupon.
Kids Catch & Release Fishing Tournament – Kids of all ages will gather at the Cheeca pier for a fun and exciting competition. Trophies will be presented for the biggest fish caught and released.
Massages on the Beach – Our professional spa technicians will offer relaxing massages - $1 per minute.
Grand Prize Drawing to Benefit the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center – Enter to win a Cheeca vacation package and other great prizes.
Family barbecue and live entertainment – Enjoy the “island sounds” of Cheeca’s musical masters while feasting on a delicious beachside barbecue. Soft drinks as well as a variety of mixed drinks available for sale.
